This symposium is intended to tackle philosophical problems of AI on the one hand, and the challenges and benefits that it poses on the other. We encourage interdisciplinarity by calling AI developers, philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, lawyers, etc. to investigate normative approaches to AI professional practice (how such a general-purpose technology should be developed and applied responsibly) and in addressing philosophical issues (in ethics, epistemology and philosophy of mind, for instance) under the new lens of AI, mainly but not exclusively GenAI and LLMs.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics that the symposium will cover:
We want the symposium to be inclusive, with ample time for discussion. The format of the event will consist of short presentations, an invited talk, breaks for debate and a final panel. One of the purposes of the symposium is to create a national UK network on the topic and a slot will be dedicated to sharing our views on such endeavour and how to move forward.
We invite colleagues to submit an extended abstract for this symposium.
The details are follows:
This symposium will be held at the 2025 AISB Convention at University of the West of England, Bristol, UK, 14-16th January 2025.
